Erick Lyle, author of On the Lower Frequencies: A Secret History of the City (Soft Skull, ‘09), a compilation of many of his wonderful ‘Scam’ zines, has undertaken an ambitious new project called Streetopia, which brings together “at least 132 artists” to address “Utopian aspirations for the city.”

Streetopia opens this Friday in San Francisco with the following schedule:

1. Dinner at the Streetopia Free Cafe 5PM - 7 PM @ Tenderloin National Forest/Luggage Store Annex (509 Ellis)
Music by Strawberry Smog 7PM @ Tenderloin National Forest/Luggage Store Annex (509 Ellis)

2.Art opening at San Francisco Drug Users Union (149 Turk Street @ Taylor) 5-9PM
(features collaboration between Barry McGee and San Francisco Drug Users Union)

3. THE SOMETHING, a performance by Shaun O’Dell and friends at Hotel Renoir storefront on Market Street @ Macallister 7-10PM ongoing

4. At The Luggage Store 7-11 PM
Dedication of new mural by Rigo 23 on Luggage Store Door

Dance performance in the streets by Brontez Purnell and Amara Tabor Smith 8PM @ 6th/Market

Live performance by LOVEWARZ at Luggage Store Gallery (1007 Market Street) 9PM
Music by Moira Scar 10PM
